I've been saving this picture to post on April 1st for a long time, but now I've missed it!  Oh well.  This is a twisty braid with a side bun.  Just add static from a plastic twisty playground slide!

Red Ribbon Week (Say No to Drugs!) was last week, and the school had a crazy hair day.  This was our invention.

I braided her bangs, did a zigzag part, put plastic drinking cups on either side, brushed the hair over the cups, and put in hairbands.  I wrapped a pipe cleaner or two around the hairband and braided them in.  One braid I formed into a zigzag, and the other a corkscrew.  On one end, I spread the tail out and sprayed it with spray gel.  The other I added a poof.  I wrapped the bang braid around one cup and clipped it in place.  Very weird.

Today Belle wanted this ridiculous elephant hairstyle I gave her last August when we were entering the contest at Babes in Hairland to try and win tickets to the circus.  I just couldn't do it!

After a third failed attempt at making this Rapunzel style from the new Disney movie Tangled (I will get this right and post it!), I gave up and tried something completely different.  Click here for the Rapunzel tutorial.

This is basically a four strand flat plait (instructions coming in the future) turned up and tucked back down through.  The ribbon is tied to the top crossover section of the plait before it is turned.  I tried keeping it all in place with mini clips and bobby pins, but they were falling out and pulling "ouchy" places before she even left for school.  She also complained she didn't like the tail sticking out the bottom and that it was itchy.  So another error that needs more trials.

Tomorrow is Dr. Suess' birthday.  To celebrate, Belle will be sporting a Suess style bow made of hair.  Learn how at Girly Do's By Jenn.  She'll have a ponytail with one bow rather than piggies like this.

Another idea you might like is to do the french pony with alternating red and white hairbands.

If you want to get really wild, you can do a Whoville hairstyle by putting a plastic cup on top of her head, brushing all the hair up over it for a ponytail, then braiding or curling the ends.  Add a pipe cleaner into the braid to shape it and make it stick out. 

Or Thing 1 and Thing 2, for medium short hair, turn head upside down, add a ton of hairspray, and blow dry the hair towards the floor.  Add some blue hair color...  Really this is not my sort of thing, but some schools do a crazy hair day for Dr. Suess' birthday.  This would be crazy.

For shorter hair, maybe toddler type, make a pigtail on the top of the head that sticks straight up and put the rest of the hair into two piggies about an inch over the ears.  Poof them out by back combing, if you need to.
